Tobacco
Flue cured
Sucker control 8L–10L / Ha in 350L – 550L of water Apply 7-10 days after topping following the application of a contact desuckerant spray.
Spray with fine nozzles at pressure of 300–350 kPa.
Wet leaves thoroughly BUT do not drench. Spray top one third of the plant using a tricrop boom sprayer or a hand sprayer.
Burley 10L / Ha in 350L – 550L of water DO NOT apply until plants have been topped and tip leaves are at least 15cm in length.
Compatible with fatty alcohol sucker control agents, and other agricultural chemicals except copper and zinc based fungicides.
Flue cured and Burley 8L–10L / Ha in 400L – 500L of water Spray with fine nozzles at a pressure of 300–350 kPa.
Thoroughly wet leaves on top one third of plant.
DO NOT apply until plants have been topped and tip leaves are at least 20cm in length. Apply 10-12 days after application of a contact sucker control agent.
Potatoes Inhibits sprouting of tubers 10L / Ha in 500L – 1000L of water.
Use no less than 100L of water / Ha for annual application
Spray one week after blossom fall, or two weeks after full bloom.
In varieties or in conditions when good flowering does not occur, spray immediately upon the first sign of yellowing of the tops, usually 4–6 weeks before the crop is ready for harvest.
Timing is important as early spraying may reduce crop yield and late spraying may reduce effectiveness.
Onions Inhibits sprouting of bulbs 10L / Ha in 500L – 1000L of water.
Use no less than 100L of water / Ha for aerial application
Spray when onion bulbs are fully mature and have 5-6 green leaves and their necks are soft enough for the tops to fall if they have not already done so.
Apply the spray when 50% of the tops have fallen, but while all the tops are still green.
Add a surfactant such as Kendeen 20, at 25ml per 100L of prepared spray.
Garlic Inhibits sprouting of bulbs 10L / Ha in 500L of water Apply 3 weeks before harvest as plants are just beginning to dry.
Always refer to the full registered product label for full usage directions, safety, and environmental instructions.

What is Slow Grow 270 growth regulator and how does it work?

Slow Grow 270 is an APVMA-registered growth regulator containing 270g/L maleic hydrazide (potassium salt), used as a sprout suppressant for potatoes, onions, garlic bulbs, and for sucker control in tobacco. It is absorbed through green foliage and translocated to storage organs, where it prevents unwanted growth and helps maintain crop quality in storage. Always consult the label before use for approved crops and directions.
  • Timing: Spray one week after blossom fall or two weeks after full bloom. If flowering is poor, spray at first yellowing of tops—usually 4–6 weeks before harvest.
  • Rate: Apply 10L per hectare in 500–1000L water. Boom sprayer preferred.
  • Critical Instructions:
    • Plants must be actively growing for best sprout suppression.
    • Do not treat seed potatoes.
    • Avoid spraying wilted, frost-damaged, or diseased crops (e.g., Verticillium wilt, Alternaria, Phytopthora) as efficacy will be reduced.
    • For aerial application, use a minimum of 100L water per hectare and spray in early morning or light winds; ideal droplet size ~150 microns.
    • Do not mix with insecticides, fungicides, or foliar fertilisers; clean spray tanks before use.
  • Compliance: Always consult the label for further restrictions and safety instructions.
  • Timing: Spray when onion bulbs are fully mature and have 5–6 green leaves with soft necks. Apply when 50% of tops have fallen but are still green.
  • Rate: Apply 10L per hectare in 500–1000L water. Add a non-ionic surfactant such as Kendeen 20 at 25ml per 100L of spray.
  • Critical Instructions:
    • Do not apply to crops infested with Botrytis or Leaf Blight (Blast), or if there are three or fewer green leaves remaining—all tops must not be completely down.
    • Early application may cause bulbs to become spongy or hollow.
    • Use with well-storing onion varieties; will not make poor storer varieties adequate for storage.
    • Not recommended for onions to be lifted prematurely.
    • Some export markets do not accept onions treated with maleic hydrazide. Check before using.
  • Compliance: Follow all label safety and export notes.
Apply 10L per hectare in 500L water three weeks before harvest when garlic plants are just beginning to dry down. Proper timing is essential for effective sprout suppression. Refer to the label for safety and detailed application instructions.
  • Timing & Rate:
    • Flue-cured tobacco: 8–10L/ha in 350–550L water, 7–10 days after topping and after use of a contact desuckerant spray. Use fine nozzles (300–350 kPa); wet the top third of the plant. Do not drench.
    • Burley tobacco: 10L/ha in 350–550L water, only after topping and when tip leaves are at least 15cm long. Apply 10–12 days after a contact sucker control agent.
  • Critical Instructions:
    • Compatible only with fatty alcohol sucker control agents, not with copper/zinc fungicides.
    • Do not exceed recommended rates. Over-application can impact crop maturity, leaf quality, and residue levels.
    • Carry out spraying in still air conditions, after dew has dried or on cloudy days.
    • Will not control suckers present at the time of spraying.
    • Observe pre-harvest intervals. Do not use within 7 days of harvest.
  • Compliance: Reference the label for withholding, residue, and export notes.
