Profile
- First marketed in 1979
- Triclopyr is absorbed mainly through the foliage and roots, then moves both upward and downward within the plant via the xylem and phloem
- It accumulates in actively growing (meristematic) tissues
- Acting as a synthetic auxin, it disrupts normal growth patterns by triggering uncontrolled cell division and elongation, ultimately leading to plant death
Benefits
- Highly effective on woody broadleaf weeds: Controls blackberry, lantana, gorse, broom, and other invasive shrubs in pastures and non-crop areas.
- Selective to grasses: Removes woody and broadleaf weeds without damaging pasture grasses.
- Multiple application methods (foliar, basal bark, cut-stump): Provides flexibility for controlling different weed sizes and situations.
Toxicity
- Acute oral Mammalian Toxicity (LD50, mg/kg) - rats (female) 630, rats (male) 729
APPLICATION GUIDE
Scrubber 600 is registered for use in commercial and industrial situations, rights of way, pastures, and forests. Select the application method below that matches your equipment and situation. Each panel provides registered rates, state restrictions, and critical comments drawn directly from the product label.
Restraints — read before applying:
- DO NOT spray blackberry suffering from drought stress.
- DO NOT burn off, cut or clear blackberry or other woody weeds for at least six months after spraying.
- In Tasmania for blackberry, DO NOT treat bushes carrying mature fruit or near mature fruit.
- DO NOT spray within 1 km of susceptible crops (applies to all foliar methods).
- DO NOT apply under weather conditions, or from spraying equipment, that may cause spray to drift onto nearby susceptible plants, crops, cropping lands, or pastures.
- FOR NSW ONLY:
WITH THE EXCEPTION OF REGROWTH LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD AND UNDER 3 METRES TALL, THE CLEARING OF MORE THAN 5 HECTARES OF TREES BY AERIAL, GROUND OR SPOTGUN APPLICATION IN NSW IS PROHIBITED, UNLESS SPECIFICALLY AUTHORISED BY PERMIT. THIS RESTRICTION DOES NOT APPLY TO WOODY WEEDS.
High Volume Spraying
Apply Scrubber 600 by high volume spraying for thorough foliar coverage of blackberry, gorse, prickly pear, St. John's Wort, and a range of other broadleaf and woody weeds. Situation: commercial and industrial situations, rights of way, pastures, and forests. Rates are millilitres of Scrubber 600 per 100 L water (general) or per 15 L water (knapsack). Apply when weeds are actively growing.
Commercial and industrial situations, rights of way, pastures and forests
| Weed Controlled | State | General Rate / 100L Water | Knapsack Rate / 15L Water | Critical Comments |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blackberry | QLD, NSW, VIC, SA & WA only | 170ml | 25ml | Apply from late spring to early autumn when bushes are actively growing. Best results are achieved from applications made between January and April. One application may give satisfactory control but subsequent re-growth and seedlings should be re-sprayed after hardening off. Do not use this product under extremely dry conditions as considerable re-growth may occur. Thorough coverage is essential; however, avoid excess spraying which is wasteful of chemical. Where herbicides other than Scrubber 600 or Grazon DS have been used, allow two seasons re-growth to occur before re-spraying with Scrubber 600 or Grazon DS. |
| TAS only | 170ml | 15ml or 25ml | Apply from petal fall to leaf fall, except when bushes are carrying mature fruit. Application from mid-fruit stage to leaf fall may give improved control. Use the higher rate on large bushes when complete wetting is difficult. |
|
| Seeding Camphor Laurel (up to 3m tall), English Broom |
All States | 170ml | 25ml | Thoroughly spray foliage when growth is active. |
| Green Cestrum, Brooms | QLD, NSW & VIC only | 170ml | 25ml | Thoroughly spray foliage when growth is active. |
| Eucalyptus (seedlings and regrowth from small lignotubers), Banksia, Angophora | All States | 400ml or 560ml | 60ml or 90ml | Ensure thorough coverage of foliage. Thoroughly spray foliage when growth is active. Apply the high rate in VIC, TAS, Southern NSW, and where difficult-to-kill species are present. NSW only: Apply to actively growing re-growth less than 5 years old and under 3m tall. Thoroughly spray foliage when growth is active. Use the lower rate on young seedlings and the high rate on plants more than 2m tall. NSW only: Apply to actively growing re-growth less than 5 years old and under 3m tall. |

Basal Bark & Cut Stump Treatment
Basal bark and cut stump treatment allows Scrubber 600 to be applied in diesel distillate directly to the bark of stems or to freshly cut stumps to control a wide range of woody weeds in commercial and industrial situations, rights of way, pastures, and forests. This method can be used throughout the year and is particularly suited to larger trees and situations where foliar spraying is impractical.
Always use diesel distillate as the carrier — do not use water.
When using Scrubber 600 with diesel, wear nitrile gloves instead of rubber gloves.
- Use low pressure — up to 200 kPa maximum.
- Minimise spray drift from high volume application by using low pressure and nozzles that do not give a fine droplet size.
- For basal bark treatment, spray or paint bark around the stem to 30 cm above ground level, wetting thoroughly.
- For cut stump treatment, apply to freshly cut stumps immediately after cutting. Best results are obtained when stems are cut to within 15 cm of ground level.
- Delay treatment until all regrowth has had time to emerge on bulldozed or ploughed areas.
- After use, clean equipment thoroughly and rinse several times before re-use. Discharge washings on non-crop, non-pasture land away from water supplies and homes.
- Equipment used for application of this product should not be used for application of other materials to sensitive plants.

What is Scrubber 600 and what is it used for?
What weeds does Scrubber 600 control?
- Woody weeds: Blackberry, gorse, lantana, privet, camphor laurel, eucalyptus (regrowth and seedlings), wattles, brigalow, sweet briar, African boxthorn, rubbervine, tree of heaven, groundsel bush, prickly acacia, and many others
- Prickly pear species: Common prickly pear, tiger pear, smooth tree pear
- Broadleaf weeds: St. John's Wort, capeweed, saffron thistle (up to bud stage), horehound, fennel, broom species
- Melon species (boom spraying, fallow/stubble/firebreaks): Paddy melon, Afghan, bitter and camel melon
How does Scrubber 600 work?
For weed resistance management: some naturally occurring weed biotypes resistant to Group I herbicides may exist through normal genetic variability in any weed population. The resistant individuals can eventually dominate the weed population if Group I herbicides are used repeatedly. These resistant weeds will not be controlled by Scrubber 600 or other Group I herbicides.
