Methomyl was first marketed in 1968
Translocated acropetally in the xylem leads to longer lasting protection by controlling most of the stages of the pest.

Methomyl’s neurotoxic action inhibits acetylcholinesterase by covalently binding to the enzyme at the acetylcholine site, blocking acetylcholine hydrolysis, which causes hyperexcitation, paralysis, and ultimately death in insects.

Toxicity

Non phytotoxic when used as recommended, except to some varieties of apples. Acute oral Mammalian Toxicity (LD₅₀, mg/kg) rats: 17-32 mg/Kg (69-128mg/kg as 25% w/w). Acute skin Toxicity (LD₅₀, mg/kg) rats: >2000mg/kg (>5000mg/kg as 25% w/w).
