Profile

Introduced in 1979. Permethrin modulates voltage- gated sodium channels, preventing the channels from closing and resulting in hyperexcitation.

APPLICATION GUIDE

Permekil is registered for control of insect pests across a broad range of crops and situations including brassicas, cereals, field and market garden vegetables, legumes, potatoes, sweet corn, sugar cane, tobacco, ornamentals, and citrus nursery stock. Select the crop section below for registered pests, application rates by method, state restrictions, withholding periods, and critical comments drawn directly from the product label.

Application rates are expressed as ml per hectare for ground and aerial equipment, or ml per 100 litres of water for high-volume dilute applications.

Restraints — read before applying:

  • DO NOT use this product for any purpose, or in any manner, contrary to this label unless authorised under appropriate legislation.
  • DO NOT contaminate neighbouring crops or pastures with concentrate, spray, or washings.
  • DO NOT spray on any plants in flower while bees are foraging — this product is dangerous to bees.
  • DO NOT contaminate fish ponds, dams, drains, rivers, or streams with the chemical or used containers — this product is dangerous to fish.
  • DO NOT discharge waste liquid into waterways.
  • DO NOT apply to ferns — ferns are explicitly excluded from the Nurseries, Flowers & Ornamentals registration.
  • Many registrations are state-specific — always check the States column before applying. Use in states not listed in the Directions for Use table is not authorised under this label.

Compatibility — read before tank mixing:

  • Permekil may be combined in the spray vat with any one only of the following: Kendral 600, Copper Oxychloride, Omite, or Pirimor.
  • When combined with Copper Oxychloride, the spray mixture must be agitated continuously.
  • DO NOT mix with more than one of these products, or with any other product.

Withholding periods — summary:

  • 1 day — Celery
  • 2 days — Cole crops (Brassicas), Field Peas, Lettuce, Potatoes, Sweet Corn, Tobacco, Tomatoes
  • 3 days — Green Beans, Green Peas, Wheat, Oats & Barley
  • 7 days — Linseed
  • Nil — Citrus (non-bearing trees only), Nurseries, Flowers & Ornamentals, Sugar Cane

Apply Permekil to brassica crops at the first sign of infestation, then repeat as pest population indicates. Add Kendral 600 to all spray applications on this crop group. Withholding period: 2 days.

Permekil is registered on citrus non-bearing trees only, in NSW and WA. No withholding period applies. Two application methods are available — Dilute Spraying and Concentrate Spraying — and the same total amount of product must be applied to the crop regardless of method. Ensure thorough wetting of all foliage.

Concentrate Spraying — how to calculate the rate:
1. Determine the dilute spray volume for the canopy (see Dilute Spraying instructions).
2. Choose your concentrate spray volume (less than run-off volume).
3. Concentration factor = dilute volume ÷ concentrate volume.
4. Multiply the dilute rate by the concentration factor to give the concentrate rate.
Example: dilute volume 1500L/ha ÷ concentrate volume 500L/ha = factor of 3. Dilute rate 10ml/100L × 3 = 30ml/100L concentrate rate.

  • Registered on non-bearing trees only — not authorised on bearing citrus.
  • Registered in NSW and WA only.
  • Apply every 21 days during leaf flush when active Citrus Leaf Miner infestation is present.

Sugar Cane is registered in QLD, WA and NSW only. Tobacco is registered in QLD, NSW, VIC and WA only. The Canegrub situation uses a soil-incorporated application at planting or ratooning — this is a different method to all other situations on this label. Withholding period: 2 days (Tobacco); nil for Sugar Cane.
